Bikes with neon green wheels, princesses, superheroes, old school and new school, Oh My!
JT's Bikes for Kids, Legacy Restoration, and VOA’s Vona Center for Mental Health teamed up once again to bring joy to local youth and their families this holiday season. JT's Bikes for Kids was established by Tim and Trina Taylor 16 years ago in memory of Tim's father's passing. Instead of flowers, he wanted something that would help others, saying, “Don’t spend money on flowers at my funeral. If we receive monies for a memorial, use the money to buy bikes for kids at Christmas.”
This year, thanks to the generous support of Legacy Restoration, JT's Bikes for Kids, and donations from community members, over $10,000 was raised. This incredible effort provided 50 new bikes, helmets, and locks for individuals and families served through Vona!
Volunteers thoughtfully handpicked each bike and helmet for the youth on their list. Many shared heartwarming memories and stories of their own childhood bike adventures. While bike test runs down store aisles danced in their heads, everyone stayed focused on the task at hand. Soon, two Legacy Restoration trailers were full and ready to head to Vona’s office where staff prepared to deliver the bikes to their new owners.
JT's Bikes for Kids creates lasting positive change in the lives of children in need, one bike at a time. This year, Vona youth will help to carry on JT's legacy as they create new experiences with their bikes, gaining the gift of mobility, independence, and adventure.
This year's JT's Bikes for Kids is dedicated in memory of Henry John Brice (March 7, 2020 – August 31, 2024).
"Henry loved being outside and he loved riding his bike. With his passing, people were so generous toward us that we wanted to pay it forward in honor of Henry."
~ Mike and Cassie Brice
It's truly the holiday spirit of giving when we can all gather, remember our loved ones, carry forward their legacies, make the season bright with smiles, and feel warmth in our hearts.
