VOA's newest affordable housing property, Nolte River Place Apartments, is set to open soon.
Nolte River Place Apartments are located on the same campus as VOA's Homestead at Anoka, which offers care for older adults. Nolte will enhance the existing campus with more affordable living options and will allow older adults from a wider range of incomes to live on the same campus.
The affordable senior apartments will feature 80 units, with 40 for residents with income limits set at 50% of the area median income, 32 for residents with a limit of 60% of the area median income, and the remaining eight units will be reserved for homeless senior veterans. The Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans (MACV) is a partner in making those eight units possible.
While VOA National owns the facility, VOA MN/WI will serve as the property manager, helping ensure that Nolte residents are connected with the human services they need to succeed.
Minnesota Housing Commissioner noted that the need for affordable housing for older adults is only growing in our state.
"With the aging of America - the aging of Minnesota, it's certainly easy to why we need units like these and we're so grateful to have Volunteers of America dedicated to this kind of work," she said.
The first residents are expected to move into Nolte River Place Apartments around the end of the year and a Grand Opening for the property will be held in the spring of 2024.
Nolte is a great example of VOA using its unique strengths in the health and housing ecosystem. While there are many organizations working to advance affordable housing, and many others providing behavioral health and human services, there are few that do all three, working actively to serve people in community-based settings, across a continuum of care.
